GENI Configuration - No root method

Shortcut Setup

activityList

  1. Download com.appdroid.anycut-1.apk​ , attached to this article.
  2. On android phone, enable installation of third party applications, under System Settings → Securtiy.
  3. Install com.appdroid.anycut-1.apk
  4. Open the new app, "Anycut"
  5. Choose "New shortcut"
  6. Choose "Activity", to create shortcuts to the following activities. You will need to repeat steps 4-6 for each one.
    1. wimaxhiddenmenu
    2. WIMAX_CFG (First of two entries)

Wimax Settings

  1. Turn Wimax on, Under System Settings → 4G Settings
  2. Open WIMAX_CFG
  3. Select NAP-ID
  4. Long press the first entry
    1. Choose Write Napid
    2. Enter 4451db
    3. Press Save
  5. Long press the entry again
    1. Choose Write Priority
    2. Enter 1
    3. Press Save
  6. Return to the home screen
  7. Open WimaxHiddenMenu
  8. Press Open Device
  9. TO ENSURE THAT ONLY SELECTED FREQUENCIES ARE USED: Select "0" for "Best FA update option". Then press Set.
  10. For each of the following, enter the value, and then press "Set"
    1. FA Index[0]: Set to desired center frequency.
    2. BW[0]: Set to desired Bandwidth, a value of "6" means 10mhz.
    3. FA Index[1]: Set to second desired center frequency.
    4. BW[1]: Set to second desired Bandwidth, a value of "6" means 10mhz.
    5. FA Index[2]: Set to third desired center frequency.
    6. BW[2]: Set to third desired Bandwidth, a value of "6" means 10mhz.
  11. IF FEWER THAN 3 FREQUENCIES DESIRED:
    • Follow above instructions, setting extras to 0.

The phone should now connect to your Wimax basestation upon pressing scan, under 4g settings, or on startup of the phone's wimax radio. These settings persist through reboot. If settings incorrect, you can always return to the phone's default settings by choosing "Load Default" under WimaxHiddenMenu. Afterwards, you will need to follow the steps under "Wimax Settings" again.

Summary of Changes

  1. WIMAX_CFG→NAP-ID: Set entry 1 to value 4451db, priority 1

GENI Configuration - Root Method

Basic instructions with build GB28 (should work with all other builds if they have the proper files). For conveniency, all files needed during the process can be downloaded from this link: www.winlab.rutgers.edu/~bronzino/downloads/GS2VM_root.zip

Requirements:

  • Windows
  • Samsung drivers (included in the zip file)

Instructions:

  • Open a shell session on the phone either using terminal emulator or adb
  • Type "getprop ril.MSL" and save the 6 numbers code returned
  • Open the dialer and type ##3282#
  • Select "view → Wimax". When prompted input the MSL previously retrieved.
  • Select "MRU". Long press the only button available and select the "Edit Mru" option. Change the frequency of channel 1 to 259000.
  • Go back and select "NAP-ID". Long press the first line and select "Write Napid". Set it to 4451db

The phone is ready to be connected to the GENI WiMax Base Station

GENI Configuration - No root method

Requirements:

  • Alternative launcher that allows the creation of activities shortcuts such as Nova Launcher (the free version is enough).

Instructions (assuming you have installed Nova Launcher from the market):

  • Long press an empty spot in one of your home screens.
  • Select "Shortcuts → Activities → WimaxHiddenMenu → WIMAX_CFG" (There are two options for WIMAX_CFG, selects the one with subtitle "napid.Wimax_CFG")
  • Open the new icon created in the home screen
  • Select "MRU". Long press the only button available and select the "Edit Mru" option. Change the frequency of channel 1 to 259000.
  • Go back and select "NAP-ID". Long press the first line and select "Write Napid". Set it to 4451db

The phone is ready to be connected to the GENI WiMax Base Station
