Connecting to GENI Backbone
Table of Contents
Each site needs direct or indirect connectivity to one of the I2 ION points-of-presence in order to fully particiapte in GENI operations. As shown on Figure 1, sites have the following options for connectivity:
- Direct connection to GENI backbone: is the preferred method for connecting to GENI backbone.
- Kernel based L2TP connection through Rutgers: is an overlay based solution for sites that don't have direct connectivity. It is based on ip l2tp tunnels over commodity Internet to externally visible endpoint at Rutgers/ORBIT site and, through it, to the GENI I2 backbone.
- vtund based L2TP connection through Rutgers (DEPRECATED): another daemon (vtund) overlay based solution for sites that don't have direct connectivity to I2.
